| Each month we will be profiling an Australian Jewellery Artist! August ~ Annette Sharpe from Chainmaille is definitely the way to our August Artist's heart! For Annette Sharpe from Red9Design, Chainmaille is her obsession, and this is shown in the large array of intricate jewellery pieces Annette creates. Annette started her career in jewellery design while working for a leading chain jewellery store. Further down the track she opened a small business with her sister Lainie selling handcrafted and imported sterling silver and semi-precious jewellery. After taking a few basic beading classes, Annette discovered Precious Metal Clay and glass, and finally in recent years, her love of chainmaille began. Annette's skill and attention to detail in all of her finished pieces comes from studying techniques with experts in their fields, including Val Spencer-Sun, Wendy Hearn, Nancy Tung, Donna Fox and Sharon Hutton. Learning the basics from skilled and experienced teachers has allowed Annette to design and create original pieces of the highest quality. Although her love of chainmaille means that Annette tries to incorporate it into much of her work, she is more than happy to work with clients to create that special piece. Sterling and Argentium Silver feature in most of Annette's work to ensure longevity and quality, but rolled gold is also a favourite with stones such as Ruby and Tigers Eye. A self-proclaimed "Swarovski Crystal Freak", you will also find Swarovski crystals used frequently! On working with clients, Annette says: "In essence, what I offer is exactly what my slogan says: “Jewellery as unique as you are”. I think what differentiates my jewellery is that everything is bespoke – it’s completely customised, from the length or link of a chain, to stone/pearl/crystal choice, to articulating and executing a completely new idea drawn from elements a client may have seen or have in mind and is trying desperately to describe! ;) I believe in supplying quality, from first contact with a client to presenting the finished piece and that’s the bottom line. I am in the business of quality craftsmanship that results in pieces which can become heirlooms and treasured favourites which give years of pleasure and wear."
