Each month we will be profiling an Australian Jewellery Artist!
June ~ Kay Lancashire from

Kay
is an accomplished jewellery designer across many techniques and materials!
Beginning with modifying
existing pieces, and repairs as a teenager, Kay has expanded her skills to
include a range of techniques including Chainmaille, seed beading, metal work,
and wire work. Although she has attended some classes for more specific
methods, Kay is mostly self-taught.

Kay believes one of her biggest assets in her finished pieces is her husband
Bill. Although Kay can do the Viking chains herself, she says
"without Bill's Viking wire chains, many of my designs would be without their
power and strength. Bill does them so beautifully"
Using wire, silver and copper metals, gemstones, pearls and hand made designer
lampwork pieces, Kay produces intricate pieces specifically catering for
clients' requirements.
However, in undertaking a metalwork
course, Kay is seeing more simplicity emerging from her work, and is more than
happy to follow it in this direction.
Kay
specializes in "redesign" for clients, taking favourite and significant pieces
of jewellery that have sentimental value to the client, and creating for them
a personalized, one of a kind piece of jewellery which can continue to be
cherished by the client. Kay has much more
than just redesign to offer clients. With a broad expanse of experience
and knowledge, Kay enjoys the challenge of independently creating a new,
unique piece, or working alongside a client and helping them learn the skills
to create a piece for themselves. Kay
currently sells her pieces, as well as teach classes from her studio in Loch,
South Gippsland, in Victoria.
